Hatha Yoga with a taste of mindfulness

At Ready to Relax we offer Hatha Yoga with a taste of mindfulness. This program runs throughout the year. A one hour and fifteen minute class beginning with an introduction to mindfulness meditation. Followed by mindful gentle Hatha Yoga. The class concludes with a fifteen minute progressive body relaxation.

Dr Craig Hassed from the Department of General Practice at Monash University in Melbourne explains that eliciting the relaxation response is very beneficial in dealing with chronic pain as it may be associated with greater pain tolerance as it has the potential to reduce inflammation, cause muscle relaxation, reduce hyper-vigilance and desensitise the central pain pathways and enhance mood and reduce emotional reactivity to pain. The relaxation response is opposite to the flight and fright response which occurs when we are stressed. Learning to relax this way allows for the body to go into a natural healing state without medication.

A taste of mindfulness is an introduction to practice and embody experientially being in the moment and allowing us to be aware of direct experience as it arises and passes. To further explore mindfulness enrol in our MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) 8 week program and immerse yourself in a new way of being.

MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) 8 week program

At Ready to Relax we offer the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program curriculum which has direct links with its originator Jon Kabat-Zinn and closely based on MBSR, MBCT Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy which was developed by Segal, Williams and Teasdale as an intervention designed to prevent recurrences of major depression in the UK.

Over 30 years ago Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn generated an eight week program which we now call MBSR at the Massachusetts Medical Center. MBSR was developed to help people suffering from chronic pain or illness or stress associated with anxiety or depression.

The course is for anyone who wants to reduce stress, chronic pain, anxiety and depression. To enhance relationships, be more resilient and less reactive in our habitual ways. To have more clarity and increase performance. To bring a greater sense of connection and compassion to ourselves and all human beings.
