14 MINDFUL MINUTES

During November my colleague Rose and I have been active in our submission to the Wyndham Council as part of their Healthy Together initiative to propose a number of events to increase the awareness of mindfulness in the community.

We have now been advised that we have been successful and have secured a grant to roll out our proposal. Very happy and overwhelmed at the same time.
The project runs from January to June 2015 and will include classes teaching relaxation techniques and mindfulness, a film night on the mind body connection, a guest speaker discussing men's mental health and then culminating in a community open air event.

Stress plays a major role in the health of our society. It effects our wellbeing, productivity, vitality, relationships and our overall happiness. You can learn different stress release techniques and make them an integral part of your daily life. Through mindfulness you can have a positive impact of your health.

We aim to share with the Wyndham community information both scientific and economic on how stress effects our lives and what the research is telling us. To provide you with knowledge on how and why practicing mindfulness can benefit your life and the people around you. We watch what we eat, we exercise our bodies but what do we do about our mental health?

Rose and I are excited to be part of this community project and to begin a conversation that can in some way reduce the stigma around mental health. Stress affects all of us and when it becomes chronic our immune system is effected and this leads to disease. The aim is to have a balanced lifestyle and we know this can be difficult to achieve.
However, you have an opportunity to look at your relationship with yourself, to be kind to yourself, to cherish and nourish your body, heart and soul.

We welcome your comments and look forward to blogging on the progress of our project 14 MINDFUL MINUTES.

    • Hi Denise,
We are in the process of setting up a website and facebook page for our project called 14 mindful minutes. Here you will find details including a full program. Yet to be posted. As you are a student in Altona you will be receiving information via group emails. So pleased this is of interest to you. Rose and I are very excited.
      Mindfully,
      Nadia
